STEVE:
He attempted to look reproachfully at Bucky, who knew how much he hated the title, but the grin of sheer happiness that was splayed across his best friend’s face ruined the rebuke before it even had time to prepare itself. Instead, he offered his hand to this “G” and greeted her the only way a man could properly meet a lady.
“Ma’am.”
She looked hesitant to take his hand, and Steve could see that her eyes looked red and swollen, though he couldn’t tell if from irritation or crying. When she finally did take his hand, Steve shook it gently, giving it a light squeeze before releasing it.
“I
TONY:
Why he’d chosen to take the stairs, Tony didn’t know, other than some misconception that it would be a more efficient use of time than the elevator (never mind the energy is would cost him in the process). Needless to say, when he reached the floor that held the main living areas, the communal kitchen, media room, study, etc, Tony was rather out of breath. Regardless of this, however, he managed to blurt out the reason for his sudden burst of exercise between heavy gasps.
“Cap, he turned it on.”
Although only one person was explicitly mentioned in the message, at least three other heads swiveled towards him, the
BUCKY:
They’d switched over to English about a week ago, three days after leaving Istanbul. Occasionally, Russian still made it’s way into their conversation, either in chunks or just as a word substitution. Every now and then they would have a conversation in which both switched flawlessly between the two languages, but mostly they just stuck to English. It was probably for the better too, they could more easily pass off as tourists now that they were traversing the many islands of Greece if they spoke English.
Now that it was out in the open that their main pursuit was to figure out who G was, they talked about it exponentially
BUCKY:
Instanbul was a lively place, perfect for two people on the run. The cities were full of marketplaces full of tourists and residents alike and the labyrinth of buildings provided perfect cover from HYDRA operatives. That and his beard helped him to blend seamlessly into the crowd. He’d thought about shaving it several times now, the thick hairs brushing uncomfortably on his lips and neck. G insisted that it made the perfect disguise, however and he sensed that it also gave her some sort of happiness. So he kept it. And he was now the owner of three scarves that he and G traded back and forth to cover their heads. It wasn’t
GHOST:
Bucky nodded.
“They wiped and re-programmed me so many times I began to lose count of what they took and what they gave back. Sometimes I wonder if I’ll ever gain back all of what I lost. But certain things were the same every time; I know that, like they had a list of desirable qualities, a recipe of how to make sure the Winter Soldier remained the Winter Soldier. I’m assuming they used it on you too.”
The duo spent the next few minutes sitting in silence. Bucky seemed to realize that he’d just dropped a huge bomb of knowledge, both great and terrible into her world, and Ghost appreciated that he wasn
GHOST:
First watch her ass. Even in the short time she’d been with Bucky, Ghost knew that he wasn’t going to wake her back up until it was time to leave again the next morning. Sometimes she wondered if he got any sleep at all. There were certainly bags under his eyes, but she couldn’t remember if they’d been there when she’d met him or if they were a new addition.
Neither of them had showered in the time they’d been travelling together, each day adding a subtle layer of grime to their bodies. Bucky too, now had a cropped beard in the works – distancing him further from the steely man who kept her c
BUCKY:
“I’m going to call you G.” He said, borrowing from the English version of her moniker. He watched for some kind of reaction, hardly faltering when none came. “It’s not quite a proper name, but it’s a start.”
He then pointed to the clothes he’d managed to grab for her, wondering simultaneously what language she thought in. He’d always thought in Russian until he remembered his life before the soldier, because that’s where the soldier began. But if she had no such connections, did she latch on to something else? Perhaps that would help them figure out where she came from. But h
BUCKY:
The room was significantly darker when she awoke, speaking to some time in the late afternoon or evening. He watched as her eyes took in the situation before she sat up, slowly this time as though in great confusion. He couldn’t blame her really, he would’ve expected the arm to stop an assault like that too.
At first, Bucky couldn’t decide if hiding the arm from her was the wise thing to do. She might have been more likely to trust him if she saw that they had this in common. Now, looking back, it would have only caused him more trouble. His arm was a much-needed secret weapon. From the moment he realized they had tr
GHOST:
This time when she awoke, the room was full of noonday sun. She noticed immediately that there were no restraints and sprang into a crouch on the bed. It was then that the audible click of a gun being cocked reached her ears. She swiveled to face the sound and found the man from before sitting exactly how he had been before in the corner by the window.
“Let’s try this again,” He said, his voice neither full nor empty of emotion, “I’d really appreciate it if you didn’t try to run this time.”
She looked at him doubtfully.
“Now, I’ll start this time. Hi, they called me the Winter Sol
GHOST:
The first thing Ghost noticed when she woke up was the light. Although her vision wasn’t totally functioning yet, she could tell that it was different. The LED lights of the compound didn’t give off this warm of light, but a more sterile, blue glow. The second discrepancy was the noise. There wasn’t necessarily more or less of it, but again, it was different. Strange whistles and honks had replaced the constant whir and beeping of the machines they used to monitor her vitals. Everything had a sort of muffled quality to it as well, like it was coming from outside the room and the air inside the room was completely qui
